Gala Shopping Trip

What's Up?

With the upcoming charity gala for Phoenix coming up, it seems only natural that some people will need some, well, more appropriate clothes. With this in mind Emma is taking anyone who wants to go into the city to shop for gala-ready outfits, funded by herself & Warren (did he actually agree to this? Who knows!). This is a very lightly chaperoned trip - Emma is happy to provide her opinion, but for once isn't trying to micromanage everyone's clothing choices. It's not like she's distracted or anything! It's all fine! She just figures sometimes you have to let people do what they want. Don't ask her if something is wrong.

This is just a space to do dumb shopping threads if you want them!! Feel free to say anyone is with anyone else at any given time because whatever, and also anyone can purchase anything. Money is no object! Emma, for once, will pay for your ugly clothes. No one was forced to go, regardless of what Emma thinks the state of their nice clothes situation is.

Warren almost immediately found the cafe in this department store. The employees quickly sat him in a private corner with a chair that accommodates his wings. Bobby has his credit card, but he was still served an espresso and given a newspaper. In his white polo shirt and slacks, legs crossed and reading the latest articles on this disaster, he could be mistaken for a modeling advert.

As someone familiar nears him, he gestures to the waiter (who is immediately responsive), but looks at his guest. "Do you want a coffee? Something to eat?"

They are in Saks Fifth Avenue, a store Paige has never set foot in in her life. She is staring at a rack of dresses that, combined, definitely costs more than their family house in Kentucky. She is slightly afraid to touch anything, and even feels like maybe her shoes shouldn't be on the polished floor.

She looks between Rogue and Laura.

"Y'all have any idea of what you're lookin' for?" Maybe if they forget to get her a dress she can be free of the self-imposed obligation to go to the charity event.

Unfortunately, Rogue is a very goal-directed leader who has possibly never forgotten a mission, let alone one like this. She grins at Paige. And then Laura, in good measure. "Dresses, for the both of you. Thinkin' something sweet or a lil more slinky?" She's already divided like, four into those categories in her arms for options later.

Laura isn't a Saks Fifth Avenue kind of girl either, which is probably obvious from her combat boots, fishnet tights, black miniskirt, and distressed leather jacket. She has never in the life stocked an evening gown in her closet. Hell, she never really had a closet of her own before coming to Xavier's.

Her fingers trail curiously over the expensive dresses on the rack. She doesn't have the first clue what she's thinking. She's just here because Rogue and Paige are. "Warren and Emma are the ones selling us. What do they want?"

Any time they'd been in a store this nice, security had followed them around the entire time, and Rogue never left without at least a $500 pair of sunglasses tucked illicitly into her bag to prove the stores right. It was a little strange to be welcomed instead, implicitly trusted as known public figures. As though to assure good behavior anyway, Rogue keeps her hands in her pockets as she wanders the men's section, pausing on a selection of colorful suit jackets, then turning to make sure Remy's still in her orbit.

"How clean are you gonna shine up for this thing, anyhow?" She demands, to direct her browsing.
"Lookin' to get a full penguin suit in rotation?"

"Now don't act like I don't clean up nice," Remy says, responding (as he often does) to something she didn't actually say. "You know I do."

This trip is technically for everyone else to find something to wear, and since Emma is feeling less overbearing than usual she's wandering around somewhat aimlessly, ready to provide input if asked but otherwise minding her own business.

Currently she's looking at shoes, turning over a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels in her hands.

"Guess how much these are," she says, somewhat idly, to the nearest X-Man. She used to play this game when she was younger.

"Somewhere around $1,065?" Warren says reflexively from the other side of the aisle where he's inspecting a pair of white loafers. "Oh, sorry. You were probably asking one of your clueless friends. As a sort of joke. It would have been very funny when they suggested they were a few hundred at most."

Kitty, peeking out from inside the shoe rack to see if her size was hiding back here for a pair she wanted to try on, strides out and confidently states, "Well if it's more than $50, it's a ripoff."

Illyana brought the microraptor she and Kitty rescued (Toothbrush) with her on this trip. To her meager credit, she does seem to have been correct in saying that it has imprinted on her like a baby duckling, and it never goes more than ten yards or so away from her. However, it is not exactly "well-behaved", and having it tag along is definitely a Whole Thing. She already told a bald faced lie to one store employee and said that the dinosaur was a puppet — a passable enough lie when it's sitting perfectly still on her shoulder. That is not what's currently going on, though.

She whistles sharply at the animal, who has climbed a clothing rack by its talons. Dutifully, the raptor hops down and glides over to her shoulder, where it brakes its landing by biting onto a mouthful of her hair before scrambling up to its usual perch.

"Good girl," Illyana says, and feeds it a cat treat, which she seems to be carrying loose in one of her pockets.

"Have they bitten anyone today?" Kurt asks as Toothbrush still has strands of Illyana's blonde hair in its mouth. He's honestly impressed all it's done is tear up a few expensive cardigans. "Besides giving you love bites, of course."

He offers Illyana her order from the coffee shop, using his tail to distract Toothbrush from taking too much interest in his hands. They're, uh, still getting to understand one another.

THREADS: Kitty & Kurt

Seven stories below them is nothing but traffic. Pedestrians and cars competing all over the congested streets while Kurt and Kitty lean on the edge of the roof, far above it all. Untouchable as always.

Kurt had barely remembered to tap the button on his image inducer, just so the sight of a distinctive blue man wouldn't give away their position. He's since edited the illusion a little, making it closer to what he'd seen in the mirror months ago. It's still surreal, but at least it's a little more honest.

"If someone recognizes you, I'll turn it off."

Kitty dangles one foot off the ledge, smiling at the sensation and the knowledge that if she wanted to, she could simply walk off, never to touch the ground for miles or bother with any of the traffic below them. Feels peaceful. She turns to Kurt, who doesn't look like Kurt, but the strange unpowered version. It's a little jarring.

"Don't feel like you need to on my account." She shrugs, "No one recognizes me. There's like thirty million brown haired girls in this city."

A tall, winged shadow looms behind Bobby. Impeccable and polite, Warren is smiling with his hands in his pockets are he stares down the man who's constantly jockeying for the title of his most troublesome friend.

"Someone called me about certain inquiries around purchasing a new vehicle with one of my cards," he says patiently ("patiently"). "A shame they're not sold here."

Kurt is looking for something that can be tailored in under 2 weeks, and Warren is here to be a walking bank. (Kurt can also foot bills for people but he forgets how rich he is.)
