Lakeside Party

It's perfect conditions for a barbecue by Breakstone Lake on Friday afternoon, after the X-Women have left for Greece. The remaining X-Men are joined by the small number of students who live at the Xavier Institute year-round, to enjoy warm sun, cold water, and burgers and hot dogs. 😎🏊🌞🌭

A few kids corner Remy Lebeau and extract a promise to take them out for a day trip in NYC sometime next week. Please 🙏 it's soooo boring here 🥺🥺

Scott Summers strictly forbids underage drinking, and a few teens make a game out of trying to sneak beers out of the cooler without getting caught. One enlists Kurt Wagner to distract Mr. Summers, and successfully makes off with a few cans.

Because there is a truly excessive number of hot dogs and buns on hand (thanks to Mr. Summers' obsessive preparations), the kids announce a hot dog eating contest. To participate, roll a d20 to determine your character's hot dog eating talent. If they roll 1–5, they get sick. (The participating students roll a 19, 20 and 19.)

Poker Night

On Saturday, Scott Summers conscripts the X-Men for an evening of mandatory fun. He's also invited Ambrose Porter to play poker with them (and will even pay the $50 buy-in for you if you don't have it). For drinks, there's Beluga Noble Vodka (in celebration of Piotr joining the team) and Budweiser (Scott has terrible taste).

The game quickly becomes lopsided with a telepath in the mix, although Manuel de la Rocha gives Ambrose a run for his money for most of the night. Piotr Rasputin is the first to lose all of his chips, and Scott (???) proposes that they switch to strip poker instead.

Piotr is grateful that Illyana is prone to talk at length about things — it means he has a general idea of many of the X-Men even without having interacted with them much. He still keeps mostly to himself, but he knows that this is an opportunity to extend the same kindness that the team has given to him. He should be social. Even if he's still not great at it.

But Manuel seems reasonable, or at least less intense than some of the others, and so he approaches him with a peace offering in hand out by the lake: a beer.

"Have you had this before?" he asks curiously. He hasn't, but he knows it's very classically American.

FRIDAY: Piotr and Manuel

Manuel can feel Piotr's good intentions before he approaches, the man's desire to connect despite his nervousness and uncertainty, and so offers him an easy smile even at the miserable offering. He turns the Budweiser over in his hand and looks up at the (much) larger man with lifted eyebrows.

"Have you?" he counters, knowing the answer and continuing with a sort of conspiratorial amusement, "It's absolute swill. But...when in Rome, no?" He opens the can and lifts it expectantly. "Salud." He doesn't have the slightest idea what they say in Russia; this will have to do.

FRIDAY: Scott & Remy

"Right. That's everything," Scott declares after depositing enough hot dog packages to feed a small army. He also brought an array of condiments and toppings, and starts arranging them now on the table in the most efficient order.

He's a bit stressed—they're running slightly behind schedule for lunch. This is what happens when you choose to be spontaneous. (Scott is not a fan.) "What's our status?" he asks Remy, who was tasked with getting the grill running.

Poker Skill: 1 - he's never played before, but picks it up rather quickly. He actually wouldn't be all that bad except for the fact that he has zero poker face and is often hesitant to make bold moves.
Drinking: Let'ssssss say 3 - he's bonding!! He's also very large and has to drink so much....
Cheating: 1 - even without a telepath, he's not cheating! He's trying to make a good impression and he doesn't know them well enough to do silly cheating.
Clothing: A t-shirt, pants, boxers, and a pair of socks.
Anything else? Visibly enjoying himself after he loosens up a bit (thanks, vodka and beer). He's like the most gracious loser on the planet.

Poker Skill: 4. Even without his powers, he's pretty good and has an annoyingly steady poker face.
Drinking: 2. He doesn't typically overindulge, but a little buzz is nice.
Cheating: 3. He isn't actively cheating, but he's always cheating to an extent because of his powers. He can tell when people are being deceptive, he can read people's reactions to the cards they draw, etc. Whatever, it's fine.
Clothing: 8 - A summery linen button-up, slacks, a belt, a watch, two rings, two socks, underwear.
Anything else? ...He wants to beat Ambrose, actually.

Poker Skill: 5. Like his dance with Emma, it takes him a few rounds to seem to remember what he's doing, but once he does he's quite impressive!
Drinking: 3. Anyone that's paying attention may notice that he's trying to keep up with Remy and Kurt. Is he one of the boys yet...?
Cheating: 1??? He claims that he isn't using his powers to read minds, but who can say, really.
Clothing: 6 - An oversized Xavier Institute sweatshirt, a t-shirt that actually belongs to Kurt Wagner, jeans, two mismatched socks, underwear.
Anything else? He actually seems to be enjoying himself. Good call, Scott! He does, however, drink too much and stumbles away before the night is over.

After poker, Scott stays behind in the parlor room to tidy up, which doesn't take nearly long enough for him to sober up. Squeezing his eyes tightly shut, he dislodges his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose. He should sleep instead of brooding over his failures, but Scott knows himself too well to think that he'll pass out any time soon.

Did Piotr feel singled out? Does Ambrose think they're childish now? He's not sure anymore what he was trying to accomplish. Fun is not his forte. He should've asked Kurt or Remy for guidance on what to do this weekend. He could've asked Emma. If he wasn't so stubborn about handling everything himself...

Scott pulls his hand away from his eyes, and sees Manuel. "I'm almost done here."

SATURDAY: Kurt & Remy

"You think that went good?" Remy asks Kurt as they're making their way back to their rooms after finally wrapping up poker night. The double shots of vodka hadn't been his last drink of the evening, although they had been a big mistake, and he has a sway in his step as he walks.

Also thanks to his general level of nonsobriety, he's sort of trying to emulate the way Scott is always businesslike and direct about things, even if they aren't strictly business-related. That seems like a quality a leader probably should have to Remy after he's had a few drinks. He is also suffering a small amount of guilt over the fact that he was the one who had won the hand that knocked Piotr out of the game. "Worried I made a bad impression."

Kurt is two parts yes let's party, and one part making sure Scott's fun boys weekend goes off perfectly and everyone has fun.

Warren is a little awkward at first, but warms up pretty quickly.

I have no boys and yet I think with the leftover hot dogs and beers the boys should do what a bar near me did and have a hot dog sucking competition read: hollow out a hot dog and you have to drink a beer thru it/eat the hot dog fastest one wins.
