Week of December 1st: The HOA has a meeting to discuss snow removal, but it ends with an argument between two neighbors about the height of fences. Once back on track, they ask for volunteers to shovel sidewalks for the elderly.
Week of December 8th: The neighborhood has a tree-lighting ceremony in the park, and then a potluck at the local church's rec hall. There's an unofficial contest for best bread and best chili at the potluck.
Week of December 15th: The school Christmas play! Even those without children typically come, since the neighborhood is very close-knit. One child falls off the stage after a bit of too-zealous dancing, but they're ok.
Week of December 22nd: The week of Christmas! Kids are off school and most people have at least one day off work. It snows quite a bit, making for a perfect white Christmas. The power does go out on the 26th, though.
Week of December 29th: Get ready for New Years! The HOA is soliciting donations for a New Years Eve silent auction and raffle that they hold every year. It's expected everyone contribute something, even if it's small.
Week of January 5th: Ambrose is finally able to bring them all home, but not before they're all forced to take down their Christmas lights by the HOA. Christmas is over!! It's time to be serious again.

Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
Emma refocuses on Rogue quickly, though.
"A charmed life can be pleasant for a while, but I'm not one to be content with doing essentially nothing. It's all just going through the motions."
Not all bad, of course, but she misses her life back home.
"But it's hard to complain too terribly much, isn't it? It's comfortable here."
Re: Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"Comfortable's a way to say it." She agrees, in the end. "I know we can't get used to it. It's gonna go away. But if these motions are the ones we have to go through, they're not so bad. Think my biggest problem here is making sure I get a promotion next year. Imagine a life like that."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"It will go away, but there's always the chance to look for things here that you'd like when we return. For example, I think you'd make a very charming lawyer with your twang. And we can work on your power control."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"Ah. I don't want to be a lawyer, much, anyway. All that arguing? Goodness. What about you. Any latent flower desires hiding? We could set you up a little greenhouse."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"I took a flower arranging class as a child, so it's not unfamiliar to me and I don't dislike it. Still, I can't imagine it being my job. Not enough arguing."
She hums, thinking, "Back home, what days of the week are you generally free?"
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
All of this distraction, though, doesn't seem to faze Emma. Which also isn't surprising. Rogue sighs and looks away for a drink, perhaps, or anything that would swoop in and allow her to not commit to this. It's not that she doesn't want to control her powers. Only she has a hard time seeing anything working as well as they do now. "Do we gotta schedule this minute?" She argues, when she finds nothing sufficient. "Isn't there something to be said about enjoying the present?"
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
As a kindness to Rogue, she waves over one of the circulating waters who has glasses of wine on a tray.
"I like to get a head start on things. You can enjoy the present without procrastinating."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"You're awful good at it, too. To your hospitality." The sip she takes after the cheers is small but clearly stalling, even now.
"...Suppose I'd like to enjoy not thinkin' about it, for just a second. It's real easy to play normal when you actually are." She admits, turning up a baleful little grin. "Guess that's not good for everyone. Bet you actually miss your powers."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"Thank you, darling. You should have seen the parties I had planned back home. And I do understand where you're coming from, of course, but I do miss mine terribly. It's essentially losing one of my senses."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"Well it is, in a way. Now you actually gotta talk to folks. Can't imagine that hardship." Okay. Only sort of empathetic. Her mouth turns up with just a little mischief. "...I don't think it's a whole curse. My powers. Nice to have a respite from 'em, but I would miss them long term if they were to go away forever. So I understand."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"It's very annoying to have to talk," she adds, but this, through the bit of joking, has some honesty. Having known what almost everyone was thinking all the time, she can't help but constantly wonder now. It doesn't make her insecure, but it makes her feel isolated.
"I don't think that any of us would give them up, regardless of what hardships they impose. But I do hope you're making the most of it while we're here."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
At Emma's last point she would ordinarily demure, and not give anything up. But she does feel a little bad that she has to resort to talking. Least she can do is talk back. At least mostly. It's hard to keep a little grin down. "Oh, don't you worry none about that. Taking advantage of every minute. It's nice to be able to shake hands and all."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
But that's not something she particularly wants to darken this evening with, and Rogue provides the perfect distraction.
"Oh yes, shaking hands is lovely. I'd be terribly worried if you weren't partaking." Emma's smile isn't tamped down at all. "I'm happy that something good is coming from this... forced vacation."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
She successfully, though, makes Rogue sigh a little, looking at the floor in false shame, and then, instinctively, out into the room as though she's looking for someone. "Sometimes it's nice to relax. You get in any of that? With...well wait, just how many men are lined up for this you, anyhow?"
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
"Just you wait, darling. You won't know what to do with yourself."
Her eyes follow Rogue's out to the party, though it's unclear if they're searching for the same person. It doesn't particularly matter, but her eyes do remain out on the group even as she laughs at the other woman's words.
"I think my ex-husband is mostly over me, so it's not too much of a fight. Scott and I aren't being secretive, regardless of what's going on with our counterparts, so that thins the field quite a bit. I can put all my attention on him."
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
She's now anticipating some catch at a party Emma throws, and is frankly excited for it. They can't all run as smoothly as this one. As she looks out on this crowd she is, of course, looking for Remy and smiles to herself when she finds him. Then out of curiosity, for Scott.
"Oh, he's over you. Flirting with everyone in sight and striking out each time. It's sweet you and Scott are dating, even here. Is that really going on in this timeline, though, or should we expect a rift in time and space to open cause of it?" Mind, she's not complaining.
Dec 23: Emma & Rogue
Emma's gaze only focuses momentarily on Remy before moving on. She is glad that the two of them can have this. It makes her even more determined to figure out a way to help Rogue once they're back home, even if she has no reason beyond stubbornness to assume that she'll be able to do much of anything to assist.
"That doesn't necessarily equate to being over me, but I obviously can't confirm one way or another." She sighs as she looks back to Rogue.
"As far as I can tell they're not even clandestinely seeing each other, so if the universe collapses you can blame us. So far the biggest problem has been your usual suburban judgement, which at least provides some entertainment."
