Kitty blinks her eyes up at this girl, who for some ungodly reason hadn't just taken the hint and left. Ordinarily, Kitty would want to turn and ignore the girl fully, but there's the novel experience of someone directing their thoughts straight into her head, and reading hers as they occur. She hates this so much. But at least she sort of knows how this works already, and without opening her mouth communicates,
« If it acts like a snob. Talks like a snob. Wears earrings that could pay for nineteen people's rent with her school clothes like a snob...»

« You don't know me, » Emma counters, and maybe, just maybe, there's a hint of annoyance in her mental voice. She doesn't care of Kitty (that is this girl's name, she realizes) thinks she's a snob. It doesn't even matter if she is one (she isn't). She rolls her eyes.
« And being mad about my earrings is ridiculous. It's not like I bought them. Plus, you could clearly use some fashion advice. »
She tilts her head, considering the other girl, trying to get back the sense of control over the situation that she felt like she had moments ago.

«I like the way she dresses. But I like the way I dress. And you don't know me, either, and yet you're choosing to like, cry about my clothes instead of actually asking me anything interesting.»
Kitty shrugs, throwing down an indeterminate challenge. « Maybe that tells me all I need to know. »

Rolling her eyes, Emma fully enters the room to place her hands squarely on the arm of the couch the other girl is sitting on, leaning over some to do so. She's used to not getting along with people, particularly her own age, so this isn't really unfamiliar or a big deal. But she thinks that, maybe, her and Kitty are friends when they're grown up, which makes her want to try a little more than she normally would.
« Cry? Please. And I was going to offer you a trade of sorts, but if you don't want to... »
This is said flippantly, as though she wasn't the one that started this interaction hostilely.

Some people just don't give up. Unfortunately, that makes Kitty like said people more. She's like that, too. She rolls her eyes right back at the girl, and wonders once more why she doesn't just leave. Girls like this never actually want to talk to Kitty. She's spent a lifetime being invisible to them, which suits her just fine. Her added talents only help her hide.
And yet, she finds herself curious. She raises an eyebrow. « What kind of trade? »

For one tiny moment, Emma considers telling Kitty that she struggles with peers too. She quickly dismisses the thought in favor of looking satisfied that she's gained the other girl's interest.
« Apparently, older me has an entire extra room as a closet. I thought I could loan you some clothes, and you could help me steal a bottle of whiskey from a locked liquor cabinet. »
Kitty actually laughs at this, out loud, which is probably awkward given the fact that they hadn’t been talking with voices at all. She covers her mouth with her hand, shaking her head incredulously.
«Oh, I’ve seen how older you dresses. Hard pass. »
Her mind’s eye gives a flicker of the Polaroid wall; indeed featuring quite a few of this girl in a series of ridiculous couture, always looking just off-angle or otherwise unattractive. Except for one where she’s kissing the side of Kitty’s head, and they’re both laughing. Maybe it’s the fondness in that image, but Kitty does still consider the offer. And then makes a counter.
«I’ll help you steal the whiskey but you’ll owe me an unspecified favor.»

« I guess it's not surprising you have no taste. » There's a lack of Emma's earlier bite in this comment. She hums, having to fight to keep her hands on the sofa arm. She wants to fix Kitty's hair.
Until she sees all the unflattering photos of her older self.
« Your adult self has a strange way of showing my adult self she likes her, » she says with a wrinkled nose. « But... fine, unspecified favor. In addition, though, I get to dress you for one day, and you can have some of the whiskey. »

« Who says she likes her? » Kitty raises an eyebrow into the silence. Maybe her older self just really liked awful pictures of her enemies. Who could fault her for that. This deal, meanwhile, was probably not great. She considers, closing for a long and careful second and then extends one hand out to be shaken.
"If you pick me a bad outfit, I'm going to replace it all with mouthwash." She promises, aloud.

« I have that same picture in my room. The one where they clearly like each other. » Emma rolls her eyes as she says this, but her mood has at least mostly evened out.
"I would never — you're going to look very cute. Now, come on." She offers her hand to pull the other girl up. "Might as well go check out that cabinet right now."
Kitty shrinks away from her and then realizes that this hand is just a hand. Cautious, she takes it and allows herself to be pulled. She still looks at Emma through partially suspicious eyes, like maybe she’s afraid a humiliating bikini outfit will appear on her body by sheer force of this girl’s will. Of course this doesn’t happen actually.
“Have you even had whiskey ever?” She accuses. She’s definitely snuck sips of her dad’s personally and knows the taste leaves something to be desired.

Kitty being a little afraid of her makes Emma feel a little better. A little more in control. But she's not going to abuse the fact, and she pulls the other girl to her feet without exacting any sort of mean prank on her. And she is actually going to try to dress her nicely. Maybe fix that disaster nest of hair, too.
